When choosing a window or door for a conservation area we recommend the undeniably authentic Residence 9 option.

What is Conservation?

A conservation area is an area of architectural or historical interest. Many villages, towns and cities are made up of period properties within a conservation area. With this in mind, many local authorities stipulate a need to maintain the original character or appearance of a property in order to preserve or enhance a property with historical features. Inappropriate, poor quality replacement windows can easily erode traditional features on historic buildings, causing them to lose their somewhat magical look and feel.

Listed Buildings

Listed buildings are the most important buildings in the country and are protected nationally by Historic England and Historic Scotland. It is generally more difficult to replace windows in these buildings and listed building consent is administered by local authorities.

Preserving Kerbside Appearance

The flush sash exterior is timeless and a true recreation of traditional 19th Century timber windows. By maintaining the simple design but deploying modern technologies, Residence Windows will maintain kerbside appeal and adhere to historical protocol. This is achieved by mirroring the sizes documented for buildings of all periods as listed in Article 4 planning guidelines. Internally the shape and depth is completely authentic and gives an elegant and distinctive appearance. Additionally, all the glass sightlines are perfectly equal, providing symmetry and classic style.

Residence 9 designed with historical sizes in mind:

Flush sash
Frame sightline 65mm
Sash sightline 65mm
Frame depth 100mm

Residence 9 has 9 chambers and is 100mm wide, resulting in superior thermal, acoustic, strength and security performance. This performance allows Residence 9 to maintain an energy rating of A+ by accommodating the most thermally and acoustically efficient 44mm triple glazing and 28mm double glazing. Utilising U-values of 0.8 with triple glazing, PassivHaus Standard and 1.2 with double glazing, it far surpasses British Building Regulation requirements. All of this contributes to lower energy bills, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
